The Sony ECM-GZ1M is a compact, lightweight on-camera shotgun microphone designed to enhance audio capture for Sony cameras equipped with the proprietary Multi Interface (MI) Shoe.

Weighing just 45 grams (1.6 oz), it offers two selectable pickup modes. Gun Mode, which provides a fixed supercardioid pattern for isolating sound from a specific direction, and Zoom Mode, which dynamically adjusts the pickup pattern in relation to the camera’s zoom level, narrowing the audio focus as you zoom in B&H Photo Video.

This functionality is particularly useful for capturing clear audio from distant subjects without manual adjustments.

The microphone features a monaural electret condenser capsule with a frequency response range of 150 Hz to 15 kHz, suitable for various recording scenarios.

It is powered directly through the camera’s MI Shoe, eliminating the need for external batteries or cables. Included accessories are a windscreen to reduce wind noise during outdoor recordings, a spacer for secure attachment, a connector protection cap, and a carrying pouch for portability
